Brecheen Votes to Give Trump a Blank Check for War in Iran
Brecheen Votes to Give Trump a Blank Check for War in Iran
Eastern Oklahoma Deserves Better Than a Rubber Stamp
BARTLESVILLE, OK. - March 5th, 2026
Today, Congressman Josh Brecheen voted against a bipartisan War Powers Resolution that would have required President Trump to seek congressional authorization before continuing military operations in Iran. The Constitution is unambiguous: Congress, not the President, holds the power to declare war. President Trump’s own Cabinet has called this a war. Yet Brecheen voted to let it continue without a single congressional debate or vote.
Brecheen campaigned as a constitutional conservative who would stand up to Washington and fight government overreach. But when the moment came to actually defend those principles, Brecheen sided with the establishment he claimed to oppose. The Senate defeated a similar measure the day before by a vote of 47-53. Only Rand Paul crossed party lines to avoid war; Josh Brecheen chose not to follow.
The people of Eastern Oklahoma are not asking for an open-ended war in the Middle East. They are asking for lower fuel costs, stable food prices, and their sons and daughters to come home safe. Six American service members were killed in a drone strike in Kuwait just days ago. Brecheen’s vote today said: keep going — without asking the people of this district whether they support it.
“Josh Brecheen ran as a constitutional conservative, but today he voted to let one man take this nation to war without a debate, without a vote, and without the consent of the American people. That is not America First. That is Josh becoming part of the Washington establishment he promised to fight against. We deserve better.”
